1 Corinthians 12:1-3 (KJV)
“1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”...
Give a church spiritual gifts and you will have a church full of strife and contention; give a church Jesus and you will have a church full of spiritual gifts. Bottom line – Jesus is our ability – outside of Him we are simply in and about ourselves.
We need to ask ourselves this question, where is this leading us and to whom is it leading us? Paul said, “even as ye were led.” Where things are leading us and to who it is leading us determines the authenticity and right to lead.
The ignorance Paul was concerned with was not in their spiritual abilities as much as how they were using those abilities.
Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (KJV)
1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
