John 5:39-40 (KJV)
“39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”
Scripture points to the one who gives life, who is life; “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:12). God sets the standard for believing. We do not get to form our faith and expect God to fit into it; believing God forms our faith – “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). It is not us reading Scripture we understand it; it is Scripture reading us and us excepting what it reveals we get to understand. Coming to Jesus opens things to us otherwise will never open.
