Assimilating Spiritual Nutrients

Assimilating Spiritual Nutrients
Leaning against my truck staring up into the over cast sky; I was pondering in my mind the word “assimilation.” Suddenly, right where I was looking, a bolt of lighting came down and passed by me about twenty feet away hitting a well house. Needless to say, it took the well pump out. It sound like bacon frying in a pan as the lighting went by me; the clothes on my body shook and there was a smell that left my mouth feeling like there was some metallic substance to it. I was not afraid, yet I was stunned by that experience, and as soon as I got home that day; I looked up the word assimilation, and studied some things on lighting.
I came to find out that assimilation according to Webster’s meant to become similar; to be absorbed and incorporated. The American Heritage dictionary used the analogy of digestion by saying, to assimilate in the process of eating is when the food is digested into the body and actually becomes apart of the living organism of the body.
One of the things I learned about lighting was that lighting releases nitrogen and other things into the air that feeds vegetation giving nutrients for growth. At that moment I knew my experience with the lightning that day was God’s way of communicating something to me concerning the five leadership gifts of Ephesians four, and the relationship of assimilating into the Body of Christ at large the nutrients needed for spiritual growth.
